Thunder Bay approves $53M indoor sports facility, ending long-running debate

City will cap construction bid at $42.7 million

City council in Thunder Bay, Ont. has approved a recommendation to move forward with a design-build request for proposal for an indoor sports turf facility.

The approval brings to an end a long-running debate about where the facility should be located and how it should be structured.

The indoor facility will cost $53 million. Bids for construction will be capped at $42.7 million.

Sports such as soccer, football, lacrosse and Ultimate frisbee could be played indoors on artificial turf during the winter months.
