Hundreds of protesters rally again against location of planned sports field in Barrie, Ont.

Waterfront location should be protected, opponents say

Not satisfied with the planned location of an artificial turf sports field and a parade ground for the local Sea Cadets, protesters again took to city hall in Barrie, Ont. this week to rally against the projects.

Barrie Today reports a few hundred people gathered to protest against the waterfront location, suggesting it’s a sanctuary for nature and should be protected. It was also argued that having parking in the area would lead to added congestion.

Council had essentially approved the project and its location last month, but is looking at a reduced field size. The planned field’s original dimensions were 100 metres by 154 metres. Cost of the project is $9.15 million.
